Whanau Class
For pastoral and organisational purposes, all students are placed in a vertical form group, called a Whanau, which:
-
Comprises a complete cross-section of the school (age, sex, ethnic background, sporting ability etc)
-
Meets and acts as a family group at Whanau time for 15 minutes each day.
-
Will remain together with the same Whanau Teacher and in the same house for the whole of their time at College.
The advantages are:
-
The students have an opportunity to mix with a range of abilities and backgrounds.
-
Younger students will be looked after by older students in the Whanau.
-
Older students have an opportunity to exercise real leadership.
-
Younger students have positive role models to look to.
-
Whanau will develop a strong, caring environment and a loyalty and positive spirit towards their Whanau and House. The Houses are Rata, Kauri and Miro.
