We want to
We want to keep you up to date regarding our school’s thinking for 2012. Our relationship with you is very important to us. We have your students coming to us so your viewpoints are valued. Please give us feedback if you have the time. We would appreciate it.
Bay of Islands College is looking to implement the following in 2012:
Finish the school day for our students at 3.15pm. This will not affect the hours of teaching for students but it will have a secondary effect of increasing the teacher preparation time. We understand that this should also make things easier in terms of the joint bus transport system for children and students in our area.
Give some students the option of learning through the medium of Te Reo Maori in Years 9 and 10.
Change the length of our periods to one hour to promote the learning and reduce the number of changes in classes for our students. (Currently there are 30 periods of 50 minutes or so in the week). In 2012 we will have 25 one hour periods.
All of this is aimed at supporting the learning of our young people and their ability to gain NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3 at the highest possible level. So please give us your feedback in whatever form suits you – by phone, email or letter. I am happy to meet with people or groups of people.
All the best in this very busy term.
We wish you and your families/whanau a very well deserved break and a very happy Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you all in 2012.
